T20 World Cup 2024: Rain cancels USA vs. IRE match in Lauderhill, knocking Pakistan out of the Super 8 race
Rain canceled the United States of America's last group-stage match against Ireland in Lauderhill, Florida, securing a Super 8 qualification. Pakistan, with a game in hand, was eliminated automatically from the Super 8 race.
Rain cancelled the USA's pivotal match against Ireland on Friday, June 14, in Lauderhill, which dealt a devastating blow to the Pakistan cricket team's chances of qualifying for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8. The United States of America advanced to the Super 8 round after an umpire was forced to cancel the game with a ball bowled due to a damp outfield.
Pakistan, who had only managed two points from their opening three games, needed Ireland to defeat the USA on Saturday, no matter what. With three straight victories, India had already qualified for the following round, and the other four teams in Group A were vying for the final slot.
After finishing the first round campaign with two victories and one loss, the USA claimed the second position with five points from four games. The USA, who were participating in the competition for the first time, won over everyone by becoming the only side, after Ireland, to advance to the second round on their first try.
